Care UK celebrates International Housekeeping Week 2026

Care UK is celebrating International Housekeeping Week by recognising the essential contribution housekeeping teams make to everyday life in the homes.

Housekeeping teams play an important role in creating welcoming environments where residents feel safe and supported. Their work shapes the atmosphere of each home and helps to ensure residents are comfortable and well cared for. International Housekeeping Week offers an opportunity to recognise their impact and the difference they make every day.

Jon Bicknell, Director of Food and Hotel Services Operations, said: “Our housekeeping teams are often seen as the heartbeat of the home, visible to residents when cleaning communal areas and playing a vital part in resident interaction. The housekeeping and laundry teams understand the individual preferences of residents and are vital to Care UK’s personalised approach to care.”

At Charlton Lodge in Wantage, the housekeeping team is known for its close involvement in the daily life of the home. Led by Head Housekeeper Liv Jessett, the team maintains consistently high standards and takes time to understand what matters to each resident. This thoughtful approach helps rooms feel personal and homely, supporting residents living with dementia to stay connected to routines that feel meaningful.

Residents also notice the team’s commitment. One resident shared: “I can tell a hard worker when I see one! We are so lucky to have the housekeeping team here.”

Liv’s leadership has strengthened the team’s role across the home. Their involvement also extends to end of life care, where they help ensure residents’ wishes are respected and families feel supported.

At Weald Heights in Sevenoaks, Head Housekeeper Theresa Ford knows how important having a genuine connection with residents is to inform the team’s work. 

Theresa personally checks rooms before new admissions and introduces her team to each new resident, helping people settle in quickly. Through daily conversations, she builds strong relationships and often invites residents to join in with light tasks when it feels right for them, offering a sense of involvement and independence.

Residents aren’t the only ones who appreciate their hard work of , with a relative commenting that the team have created “a truly exceptional environment” at Weald Heights.

“The home is very clean and bright,” they said. “The beautiful furnishings make it truly feel like home.”
