Edgbaston care home officially reopens after £232,000 refurbishment

A care home in Edgbaston welcomed the local community for its biggest celebration yet, marking the completion of its extensive refurbishment.‌

The £232,000 transformation at Care UK’s Metchley Manor, on Church Road, includes a stylish new bistro lounge and a welcoming entrance area.

The reopening was officially marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by John Homer, President of the West Bromwich Albion supporters' club and Blind Dave OBE, who joined residents and team members to celebrate the occasion.

The event saw the local community join residents for its Big Weekender event, featuring a “Metchley barbecue” prepared by the home’s Head Chef, Scott Tame.

Toes were tapping with live entertainment from pianist Chris Behan and steel pan musician The Mighty Jamma, creating a lively soundtrack for the day’s festivities.

To keep younger visitors entertained, The Phoenix Children’s Foundation brought along donkeys for a meet-and-greet session.

Resident Maureen and her husband Wes Jordan said: “The day was one of enjoyment and fun. The highlight was the buffet lunch; there were too many dishes. Along with wine and other alcoholic drinks, there were special labelled bottles of “Metchley Elixir.” It was a scrumptious, wonderful meal!”

The renovation includes a brand-new state-of-the-art bistro, a grand staircase with new artworks and a modern decorated lounge.

Sian Bradley, Deputy Manager at Metchley Manor, said: “Our special Big Weekender event to celebrate the refurbishment was a huge success. We have a splendid building, and it was the ultimate way to commemorate such an important milestone for Metchley Manor.

"We’re delighted with the transformation and so proud of the team here who have worked so hard to create a warm, welcoming, and high-quality environment for residents, their families, and the wider community. We can’t wait for the community to come in and enjoy some homemade treats in our new bistro!

Metchley Manor incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, including a café, hair and beauty salon and tavern. Its expert team provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, while the building offers both assisted living and a reminiscence suite to facilitate individual requirements.
