What is the purpose of long-term care? 

Care UK homes provide a range of long and short-term care types to support older people to live fulfilling lives.  

While short-term care, such as respite or convalescent care, offers individuals a temporary stay in one of our care homes, long-term or permanent care is available for those who require ongoing support with their personal care, health and wellbeing. 

Who needs long-term care? 

Long-term care supports older people who live with progressive conditions like dementia, who have become frailer in their older age or who simply want to enjoy the comforts of life without the pressure of daily tasks like cooking, cleaning or laundry. 

Long-term care also provides residents with opportunities for socialising and making new friends, as well as taking part in activities in and outside of the care home.
