Trusted to care in Halstead
The Colne View team is made up of people from different backgrounds and cultures. We’re a diverse and fascinating team and we’ve lots of stories to tell. We support each other to deliver the best of care to residents – in fact, we’re like one big family. You can find out more about us on these pages.
My career with Care UK started when my dog, Lady, was called in to become the Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog for Colne View. It was during this time that I really got to know the residents and became involved with the activities within the home and was subsequently employed as the activities co-ordinator for Colne View, and more recently, customer relations manager.
Prior to joining Care UK, my background has mainly been in the retail sector, although more recently I have been working as a freelance photographer alongside my role as activities co-ordinator. I am therefore delighted that my role as customer relations manager combines all these roles.
To carry out my role, you must be able to communicate well with people and have good listening skills. You need to be able to have a clear understanding of the needs of residents to ensure they are happy and all their needs are met.
I am a self-taught chef with over ten years’ experience working in the catering industry. I spent the previous five years running an award-winning café in Halstead - I’m very proud that we were able to gain and maintain the highest ratings for a cafe in Essex.
I started working at Care UK 2020 and I really enjoy preparing the main meal of the day. To be successful in this role I think it is important to deliver a tasty, nutritious, and varied menu. I also believe it’s important to have an open dialogue with residents to understand what they enjoy eating and what the kitchen can do.
A large part of my role is helping to develop the talent within the kitchen into the head chefs of the future, so I enjoy teaching the team new skills and stressing the importance of maintaining high standards.
My favourite part of working here is forming relationships with the residents, their friends, and their family to hopefully help make their stay with us as enjoyable as possible.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy reading, cooking and I am a keen follower of boxing.
I’ve been working at Colne View since 2015. It’s my job to make sure that everyone feels loved. This mainly involves cuddling, visiting and greeting people, and then lying on my back having my tummy rubbed. As you can imagine, it’s pretty exhausting.
I like to start the day with a tour of the home, making sure everyone’s happy and everything’s in place. I might inspect the chews that residents and families have brought me, and greet visitors as they arrive. Then there’ll be a bit of lying down and sleeping.
I like a lap. If I think I’m likely to get a cuddle, I’ll sit on your lap for ages. Colne View is quite a big home, and it’s important that I get around to as many residents as I can each day. I’ve worked out that, if I sit on the lap of a resident who uses a wheelchair, I can get around quickly and have a cuddle at the same time. Not just a pretty face, eh?!
