Helen Oliver

Home Manager

Helen Oliver

As Home Manager at Frethey House in Bishops Hull, Taunton, I believe our residents should receive the highest quality of care possible. My team and I work hard to maintain these high standards while making every day memorable for each resident.

Working at Frethey House is a true privilege. We are fortunate to enjoy stunning views across the Somerset countryside and a beautiful courtyard garden, which is particularly popular with residents during the summer. The home has a wonderful, friendly atmosphere, thanks to both our caring team and cosy surroundings.

I always aim to lead by example, involving myself in the day-to-day life of our community and helping to make Frethey House a happy place to live and work. It is wonderful to see the smiles on residents’ faces every day. I have worked in care since 2009 and have continued to develop my knowledge through further education, including a degree-level qualification in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care. This has given me valuable insight into how I can support colleagues to achieve their best, whatever their role, and I encourage everyone I work with to develop professionally if they choose to do so.

At Frethey House, we are one big family, and everything we do comes from the heart. We treat everyone living in our community as an individual, taking the time to understand their choices, wishes, and dreams so that we can make a positive difference to their lives every day. It is very important to us that residents feel valued and respected, and we recognise how much their experiences and life stories bring to our community.

Carers

Our hardworking teams always keep individuals and their families at the heart of the care they provide. We work with you to shape the care your loved one receives, the food they’re served, the activities and experiences they want to do – even the ways they prefer to keep in touch with their friends and family.

Nurses

The nurses at Care UK are highly skilled and receive sector-leading training, which enables them to keep developing expertise in different clinical fields from dementia to palliative care.

Lifestyle

Our dedicated lifestyle teams work hard to organise a range of activities and events at our home. From gardening and baking to quizzes, music sessions and even live entertainment. Above all, we get to know your loved one to make sure our activities are tailored to suit their interests and hobbies.

Home support roles

From catering to maintenance, housekeeping to administration, our home support teams play a crucial part in ensuring individuals enjoy an exceptional and safe service every day.

All our teams get to know each person they care for to ensure they provide a service that’s designed around their unique needs and tastes.

Infection control

Every colleague receives training in infection prevention and control as part of their induction and updates regularly through online and in-person learning. Our dedicated IPC Champions in each home help embed safe working practices and raise awareness of hygiene standards.
