At Harrier Lodge, residents are free to enjoy a range of activities, outings and one-to-one time.
Keeping active and independent is the secret to good health and wellbeing in older age: when your loved one is doing things they enjoy in an environment where they feel valued, they will be secure, happy and fulfilled. It’s for that reason that we learn all we can about them, so we can create care and lifestyle plans – even menus – that suit their needs, interests and preferences.
Activities designed to please
If your loved one enjoys the reassurance of a routine, we’ll support them to continue carrying out rewarding tasks around the home, from helping to prepare vegetables for dinner to keeping the garden looking lovely.
If they prefer group activities, they’ll enjoy our varied programme designed around their interests. Typical activities will include music and art classes, baking and reminiscence sessions, but will all depend upon residents’ hobbies. And if one-to-one activities are more of interest, we’ll support them to do whatever they fancy, from a personal pamper session to a trip out or tea and a chat in our café, Ivydene.
Forging local links
Everyone likes to feel a part of their community, and this is particularly key for older people. Our links with businesses, community groups, churches and schools ensure that there's always someone popping in to chat to, or entertain, residents.
Harrier Lodge is in a beautiful part of the world, which we make the most of with regular outings. You might find us heading to the local shops or a café for lunch, exploring historic places like Canterbury or venturing out to see the animals at Howletts. Of course, there’s nothing better than grabbing fish and chips and eating them on the beach at picturesque Tankerton.
Enjoying tasty food
Meal times are always the highlight of the day at our homes. Our dining areas are bistro-style, with smaller tables that are laid up nicely. We also use special dementia-friendly crockery so that all residents can eat as independently as possible (although help will always be on hand if they need it).
Our catering team use fresh ingredients to create delicious and nutritious hot and cold menu choices, all tailored to your loved one’s personal tastes, diet and cultural needs. They will cook something special if nothing on the menu appeals, and snacks and drinks are always available, day and night. Find out more about our approach to food and dining. In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you and your loved one to Harrier Lodge very soon.
