I used to work as a medical secretary, but I’ve worked for Care UK since 2009. In fact, I’ve held different roles here at Ventress Hall, so I know the home and the residents well.
My day is always very busy, which I like, and it’s very rewarding too. It’s always great to learn new skills – like getting to grips with new software systems (we’ve had new payroll and HR systems introduced recently). But it’s also lovely to spend time talking to residents during the day, and I do that whenever I can.
Outside of work I like to unwind by reading, socialising and spending quality time with my daughter.
I’ve worked in various trades, including painting and decorating and on the electrical side. Having that range of experience is really useful in this role as you never know what each day will bring. That’s part of the attraction of the job. I love solving problems and I like having the autonomy to get on with whatever needs fixing.
I was keen to join Care UK and Ventress Hall because of its impressive ratings. Everyone I met at my interview was really nice too – it was easy to see myself working here. I enjoy supporting the residents in whatever way I can. You get very attached to the residents, which makes it unlike any other job I’ve had.
