The Southampton Women’s Forum Health and Wellbeing Day held at St Marys Leisure Centre in Southampton has been hailed a success.
The event, which took place on Saturday 14th March, attracted a large number of women from the local community. There were different activities to take part in from wall climbing, trampolining, pilates, table tennis, badminton, and even a bouncy castle to keep children occupied.
Staff from the Southampton NHS Treatment Centre, run by Care UK were there to discuss the gynaecological services available at the centre. In addition to this there were presentation stands with information ranging from victim abuse, drug abuse, massage and energy saving.
The main purpose of the event was to bring local women from the area together and supply them with information about a range of health issues, encourage women to get more physically active and to highlight the services that the gynaecology department provide.
Lepsa Stojkovic, Event Organiser from Southampton City Council said: “This is the third year running that the Women’s Forum has organised the Women’s Health and Wellbeing Day. We are extremely happy by the number of women and young girls that came to this event, and very glad that they enjoyed the day. We are hoping for an even bigger and better event next year.”
Charlotte Barbara, Health Care Assistant said: “All in all it was a very productive and enjoyable day. It helped to raise awareness for the centre and for women’s health in the area.”
The Southampton NHS Treatment Centre is a brand new, state of the art facility and provides high quality specialist treatments in 9 areas for the people of Hampshire.
In addition to gynaecology services the centre provides a wide range of outpatient, day and inpatient surgical operations, diagnostic procedures and follow-up care in the following specialties: ear, nose and throat; endoscopy, general surgery, gynaecology, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthopaedics, pain management, urology, varicose veins.
The Gynaecology Department provides a female consultant with UK training and experience, supported by nursing staff. Services included a one stop menstrual disorder clinic, benign gynaecology and routine gynaecology.
