Provided in addition to the existing healthcare services in Battersea, the Centre will offer services for registered and unregistered patients, from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. Services will include treatment for minor illnesses and injuries. Patients will have the choice of remaining registered with their local GP, but using the centre’s walk-in services when their own practice is closed.
Purpose built medical units will offer patients comfortable waiting areas and four clinical rooms. The service will be run by Care UK, national providers of health and social care and will be supported by ATM medics, a group of six locally trained GPs.
Graham Mackenzie, NHS Wandsworth’s Director of Commissioning, said: “This is an important service, providing better access to a range of GP and health services so that local people can receive treatment in a centre closer to their home rather than in a hospital. This is in line with what local residents told us they want and clearly demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide better healthcare access for people in Wandsworth.”
Mark Hunt, Care UK’s Managing Director of Health Care said: “Care UK is delighted that this new facility is about to open its doors for the first time, giving access to high quality healthcare to people in the Battersea and north Wandsworth area. Through our partnership with NHS Wandsworth, everyone in the area will benefit from greater choice about how they wish to access healthcare facilities and treatment.”
Whilst the service’s permanent home - right next door to the Grant Road exit of Clapham Junction Station – is being constructed, the Junction Health Centre will be housed in the three temporary medical units. Running the service from a temporary structure means the Junction Health Centre opened on schedule and its patients can benefit from its full complement of services from day one.
