Jenny active again thanks to speedy treatment

Company news

Freelance PR consultant and writer Jenny Walton from Bassett is back to her active lifestyle, after day surgery at Southampton Treatment Centre to fix her troublesome knee.

While working at a client’s Winchester offices Jenny had popped out to the nearby garage for a sandwich, only to experience considerable pain and weakness in her right leg around the knee.  It was soon so bad she needed to hold the wall for support just to stand up.

Unable to walk or drive, she was taken to her local GP’s surgery by a kindly colleague.  After several days’ rest it was confirmed she would require further investigation and possibly surgery.  Her GP went through the various options available and suggested the Treatment Centre as a good and speedy solution.

Jenny’s appointment was just a few weeks later.  She said: “The whole thing was so frustrating for me as I don’t do ill.  To be honest, just getting around the house was a struggle and sapped my energy; it was difficult to concentrate on my work and I quite often have a hectic schedule.  I was unable to go walking or to visit art galleries, which are two of my favourite pastimes.

“Fortunately my GP recommended the Treatment Centre, speaking highly of it on grounds of the quality and speed of treatment, and I was keen to go with that.”

After an initial consultation and an MRI scan Jenny found out she had torn cartilage in her knee and possibly general wear and tear on the joint.  A few weeks later she was booked for keyhole surgery to repair the cartilage damage.

Jenny said: “I was nervous coming to the hospital as I really had little idea of what to expect.  I rarely go to the doctor and I don’t watch hospital dramas on TV!  However, the staff were very kind and supportive and made the experience a lot easier.  I was out the same day and it was all very straightforward really.”

Jenny did as she was advised following the surgery, resting; doing the exercises she was given by the physiotherapist after she came round from the general anaesthetic; and not driving for two weeks.

“I made steady progress over the following weeks and now have my energy and my life back.  Work is busy; walks are back on my personal agenda and I even took part in a clowns' workshop recently, culminating in a performance for a Mencap young adults group.  It’s a such a relief to be active again thanks to the good work of the Treatment Centre.”
