Manor Lodge residents had fun planning and enjoying their home’s second anniversary recently, as they were joined by lots of friends, relatives and well-wishers for the day of celebration.
Local MP and Minister of State for Health, the Rt Hon Simon Burns MP, and local celebrity Dave Monk joined residents at the Chelmsford nursing and residential home for older people as they celebrated with an indoor street party, singers, entertainers, karaoke and lots of party atmosphere.
Home manager Bernard Mawoyo said: “It has been a busy year for us. We have 120 residents, some with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, and we work hard to ensure that everyone gets a chance to take part in the activities they love. We put residents at the heart of everything we do. That, along with great staff and excellent staff training, enables us to offer the high levels of service and care that we do.”
This year residents have taken part in events including a visit from the cast of West Side Story and theatre trips to Chelmsford’s Civic Centre. They have also been entertained by performances from local schools.
Residents have also been busy outdoors. Special accessible raised flower beds and a greenhouse have been built in the grounds to allow green-fingered residents to continue gardening - and the home’s chef uses the produce in cooking activities with residents.
The garden has also been used for an Easter egg hunt for local school children and residents’ grandchildren, as well as the annual summer party.
