Memorial wall unveiled at Oak House

Home news

Oak House Residents  were joined by serving members of the armed forces and the Mayor of Slough, Councillor Sukhjit Dhaliwal to raise money for Help for Heroes and to honour people in the forces linked to the home .

The Mayor and Care UK’s Chief Executive Mike Parish planted a tree in the grounds   to commemorate and celebrate those connected with the home who have served their country. They also unveiled a Help for Heroes plaque and a memorial wall bearing photographs and stories of residents, staff and relatives who have served, or who are currently serving, in the forces.

The wall included framed photos of 100-year-old resident Thomas Humphries and of Reg Day, who sadly passed away in May, two weeks after celebrating his 100th birthday. Both men served in the armed forces and the frames also hold biographies of both men’s achievements..

The home was opened to the public and provided refreshments and entertainment to raise money for Help for Heroes, the charity which provides support to injured service men and women.
