Residents and staff at Manor Lodge, Chelmsford, are hanging out the bunting to celebrate as manager Bernard Mawayo and nurse Daisy Mathews get ready to celebrate their double care award success.
Bernard, who runs the modern 120-bed home in Manor Road, was delighted when he was named Home Manager of the Year and even more pleased when he heard that Daisy, his nominee for Nurse of the Year, had also won this year’s Care UK awards.
“I have a wonderful team here who are deeply committed to providing excellent person-centred care. All of my staff - those involved in maintenance, catering, administration and caring - take time to really get to know our residents. They understand their likes and dislikes and their interests and hobbies, so they can help them lead fulfilled lives on their own terms.
“Daisy, our clinical lead, is an excellent example of this. She is renowned among health professionals in the area for providing excellent and sensitive end-of-life care. She includes residents and their relatives in all their care decisions and she brings great compassion to the job. She is also an excellent trainer and mentor - she has created a strong and caring team who ensure residents receive a very high standard of service.”
Lizi Langley, who manages St Peter’s Court nursing home in Maldon, nominated Bernard for his award. She said: “Bernard is an inspirational manager who is committed to including relatives in the life of the home, and this explains the great results the home has received in its Customer Satisfaction Survey.
“Bernard is so committed to the development of good care practices that he also takes time out from his busy working day to take part in the regional Essex team, where he offers excellent help and advice to colleagues.”
