If music be the food of love – you are at Amberley Lodge for St Valentine’s Day, where local entertainers and residents will be taking turns to serenade the Purley home.

Husband and wife team Simon, on guitar, and singer Beth, will be getting the St Valentine Day’s party started with love songs from the 1950s and 60s.There will also be a karaoke event with residents, relatives and staff joining in the crooning of romantic favourites from across the years.

Activities Coordinator Tracey Queally said: "Our residents love Valentine’s Day because it brings back many happy memories and we make it a special day for friends and family who are visiting.

"The residents have been busy making Valentine’s cards and love hearts and Elizabeth, who is 99 years old, has been leading the way. She has always been interested in arts and crafts and her creativity at such an advanced age is an inspiration; her continuing passion shows you don’t have to give up your life and interests when you move into a caring nursing home like ours."

 The kitchen team has also become involved in the event and they, along with some residents, will be making special red and pink love heart cupcakes for the party.

 Amberley Lodge, in Downlands Road, provides residential, nursing and respite care for older people with dementia.
