Time for a cuppa – Oak House nursing home raises funds for dementia charity

Home news

Residents at Care UK’s Oak House are opening their home to the public to raise money for Dementia UK, as part of Time for a Cuppa day on Friday 23rd March between 10am and noon.

Time for a Cuppa is about bringing people together across the country to hold an event at home, in the workplace or in the community, to help raise much-needed funds to support the work of Dementia UK, a charity dedicated to improving life for people with dementia.

Kim Tillson, deputy manager at the home in Wexham Close, Slough, is organising the event along with activities coordinator Rachel Cressdee. She said: “Our kitchen team, staff and residents will be making cakes to sell on the day. We have a small oven the residents use for their cookery lesson and they produce some very tasty treats. We are also lucky to have a very active group of relatives who always get involved and make our events special.”

There will also be information and advice available on dementia. Kim said: “It is very important that we start to talk more about dementia. So many people have fears about the condition, but a diagnosis is not the end of the world - in fact it can be empowering. Once people know it is dementia, they can understand why they, or their relative, feels the way they do. It also means they can find specialist help and support.”

Oak House provides nursing and residential care for older people, some of whom have dementia and other related illnesses.
