We began preparing our Jubilee celebrations two months before the event when we appointed a team of three staff, two residents and one relative to plan and organise the activities programme.
Two weeks before the Jubilee celebration, we showed videos of the royal family 1952 to present to the residents and relatives.
Some residents were actively involved in our preparations putting up the pictures, hanging flags
and posters making cakes and painting union and St George’s flags.
Our festivities included:
Friday 01/06/2012
- karaoke in the garden
Saturday - residents’ tea party in the garden between 11am – noon with relatives and staff present. In the afternoon most of the residents watched the Royal family on TV in the boat on the River Thames.
Monday - two of our residents celebrated their birthday with residents and relatives dancing
to the music from the 1950’s.
Tuesday - residents laid the dining room table with the union flag table cloth for the big occasion. We invited the ‘Forget me not club’ which is a club of the elderly organised by the Alzheimer’s society, past relatives and clergy from the Church of England and Roman Catholic Churches.
There was a large variety of food and drinks, entertainment, and staff, relatives and Forget me not club members were involved in serving the food and drinks .
It was a colourful event with staff dressed in red white and blue and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.
