A league table of summer achievements worthy of the Olympics got off to a great start when residents and staff at Pinetum held their own torch event.
Resident Allan Gillette captured the Olympic spirit when, cheered by fellow residents and the team, he completed a circuit of the Chester home to officially start the summer competition.
With a busy summer of activities and outings at the home, instead of a single Olympic-themed event a league table was created, with certificates each day for events heroes.
Activities Coordinator Adele Elliott said: “We have had so much fun and everyone enjoys the presentations. We have given an award to Eileen Davies for best dancer for her wonderful display of ballroom dancing, Ewen Parsons was best sales person at our summer fete, best rolling pin action went to Sue Findlow and there have been lots of other awards including best singer, best bingo player and best food taster.
“We had a great day with our Great British Food day and our kitchen team made a long-lost Chester Pie recipe that was like a cross between bakewell tart and a treacle tart. It sounds odd, but it was very tasty and we all enjoyed it.”
And when everyone was worn out from all the fun, they enjoyed watching the Olympics on television. Adele said: “Cycling, swimming and athletics have proved very popular and the residents particularly liked Usain Bolt.”
