Linda Galvin, a retired Higher Level Teaching Assistant, now working for her local church as a volunteer leads a busy lifestyle. However, when a hernia began to slow her down, she was referred to the Southampton NHS Treatment Centre for her care.

Linda had noticed a lump in her abdomen and a trip to her local GP had identified that it was a hernia. Linda was then advised she would need treatment and used the Choose & Book system to book her initial consultation at a time and date that was convenient for her.
 
‘My initial consultation was fantastic; the consultant I met with was really friendly and sympathetic to my condition. I was given a variety of dates for my treatment which was great because they were working around my schedule. I was surprised I was offered this service – it really impressed me.’
 
‘On the day of my operation, I felt so well looked after; it was like I was being treated privately! I felt as if I was being looked after at all times which was really reassuring.’ After her operation, Linda was taken to recovery. ‘There had been a slight worry about my temperature as it had decreased slightly. The nurse that looked after me made sure I was ok, she was very attentive.’
 
Soon after her operation, Linda was able to go home. ‘I am feeling so much better after my treatment, obviously I am very careful with what I do but I’m starting to feel back to normal. Within 6 weeks of my operation I was able to go back on patrol with the Southampton Street Pastors which was fantastic. Thank you to everyone that was involved in my visit!’
