Did you know that more than 1.6 million tonnes of potatoes are made into chips every year in the UK or that 250 million fish and chip meals are sold in the UK annually?
National Chip Week runs from 18th to 24th February and is a week devoted to promoting the humble spud and celebrating its place in our national culture.
During the week, residents and the team at Tall Trees will be enjoying pie and chips and making a visit to collect a fish supper from a nearby fish and chip shop.
Activities Coordinator Verity Tofts said: “Apparently us Brits use at least 26 different words for fish and chips and a survey of 1,000 adults shows ‘chip shop chips’ are the nation’s favourite chips, with nearly half of all respondents putting them first. So we decided that it would be fun to go to the ‘chippy’ and everyone could order what they fancy.
“Everyone is looking forward to the trip as there is nothing like the smell that comes from the frying food and the smell of the salt and vinegar; I just hope they have enough fish and potatoes in to cover our orders!”
