Community gets together for a cuppa for dementia campaign

Home news

A Copthorne care home is inviting visitors to make time for a cuppa to support a national dementia awareness campaign.

Care UK’s Francis Court care home will be hosting an afternoon of events as part of Time for a Cuppa week. Events are being held around the country to raise awareness and funds for Dementia UK, a charity that supports the relatives and friends of people living with dementia.

The home will be opening its doors on Saturday March 9 for a cuppa, cake and sing-along event from 3pm until 4.30pm, and between 4.30 and 5.30pm visitors are invited to join in with a Take Time for a Sherry afternoon, with entertainment provided by local group the Songbird Singers.

At both events, there will be information available on dementia and members of the Care UK team will be on hand to talk to anyone with questions about dementia.

Home Manager Scarlett MacDonald said: “I have a wonderful team who are not only dedicated to providing excellent care within our home but who also want to support people in the community.

“On the third Thursday of every month, we also hold a free special afternoon for people who are caring for a loved one with dementia. It gives them a chance to have a break and to talk to people who are experiencing similar challenges. Our team are also there to provide support and practical advice and this has been greatly appreciated by those who come along.”

To mark Time for a Cuppa week, Care UK, a leading provider of health and social care services throughout the country, commissioned an independent survey into the nation’s tea-drinking habits.

The survey found that people around the UK place great value on the benefits of meeting friends and family for a cuppa and to share news – a view shared by 76% of people in the South East.

People in the region also named The Queen, The Duchess of Cambridge and Sir Winston Churchill as famous names they would most like to share a cuppa with.

Sharing family news over a cuppa was also top choice for adults around the UK, with nearly 75% saying it was their favourite way to share family news and events and 51% of over 55s opting for their children as the favourite people to make time for a cuppa and a chat with.
