Caring for a loved one with dementia can, at times, be a challenge and we wanted to show our support, during National Carers’ Week, with a free event full of advice and information from local experts.
As well as representatives from the Alzheimer’s Society and advice on funding long-term care from Ashcourt Rowan, Care UK’s dementia specialist nurse, Rose Elliot, was on hand to offer practical solutions to many of the issues faced by carers.
Silversprings Manager Karen Stokeld said: “Rose was wonderful, giving hints and tips on very practical ways people can support and care for loved ones with dementia, including activities in the home that will help their relatives maintain their life skills and methods to help soothe and calm them.
“Rose is highly trained and has many years’ experience working across the country giving advice to care homes on how to increase the wellbeing of residents with dementia. We were lucky that she was able to give people one-to-one sessions so that she could offer them tailor-made suggestions to answer their relatives’ needs.”
Visitors were also invited to look around and meet members of the Silversprings care team to see the home’s approach to care.
Karen said: “It was a great day and I am delighted that we were able to help a group of people who give so much to others.”
