Thorrington care home praised by national inspectors

A national regulator has given a care home in Thorrington its seal of approval following an unannounced inspection.

Care UK’s Silversprings was awarded a ‘good’ rating across all areas – safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and leadership – by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as part of its two-week evaluation.

Inspectors highlighted the positive relationships between team members and residents at the Tenpenny Hill home, noting the team knew residents well and understood their individual needs. They observed many warm and respectful interactions, with the team addressing people by name and providing discreet support with personal care.

Joanne Rix, Home Manager at Silversprings, said: “We are really pleased the CQC has recognised the quality of care provided here with a ‘good’ rating across all areas.

“This result reflects the hard work and commitment of the whole team, who focus every day on providing safe, respectful and person-centred care for people living here.”

Residents told inspectors they felt happy and safe living at Silversprings and appreciated the way their rooms had been personalised with items that were important to them.

The report also picked out effective care planning and risk management, with detailed plans in place covering areas such as falls prevention, choking risks, skin integrity and medicines. Medicines were managed safely and people had access to healthcare professionals when needed, including GPs and specialist services.

Inspectors also noted strong partnership working with external professionals and families, helping to support continuity of care and ensure people’s needs were met in a coordinated way. The service was also recognised for listening to feedback and using it to support ongoing improvements.

Joanne added: “It is especially rewarding to see the positive relationships between team members, residents and families recognised in the report.

“We are proud of what has been achieved, but we will continue to build on this by listening to feedback, developing our practice and ensuring people continue to receive the highest possible standard of care.”

Silversprings is a state-of-the-art care home designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives. It provides residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, and offers a range of facilities including its very own café, hair and beauty salon and gardens.
