We sing happy birthday to the oldest Life Guard

Home news

Oak House was recently filled with friends, relatives and well-wishers for the 102nd birthday of resident Tom Humphries, and he received a special presentation from the Life Guard regiment as he is now their oldest surviving member.

Tom had a wonderful time surrounded by the friends he has made during his extraordinary career. After leaving the army Tom joined the glamorous world of show business, helping to run security at the world famous Pinewood studios where he met stars such as Roger Moore, Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis.

Home Manager David Adams said: “Tom has been with us for about four years. He is a very interesting gentleman and he keeps up his interest in current affairs, reading a newspaper every day.

“He has a wonderfully loving and supportive family and many good friends. He was delighted with his party and cake and he was also touched by the attendance of the Mayor of Slough, local MP Fiona MacTaggart and members of his former regiment.

“I am glad the team at Oak House were able to help make it a very special day for Tom.”
