Our homes help to make the National Care Home Open Day a success

Home news

On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day and here we pulled out all the stops

At Grangewood we wanted to have a morning of fun that incorporated all our residents’ favourite things. So as well as enjoying coffee and lovely homemade cake we also had a visit from miniature therapy ponies Mr P and Wish.

Support Manager Samantha Rogan said: “The home has a friendly, lively atmosphere. We always have a warm welcome for visitors and we wanted to reflect that in our open morning

“Our residents had played an active role in preparing the garden and the baking and I think we managed to dispel any idea the public may have had about care homes being stuffy!”

At Stanley Park there were games, music and a chance for visitors to shop at the many summer fair stalls.

Home Manager Evelyn Tierney said: “We had a wonderful day. Our day club provides support to older people living in the local area, so we are already quite well known in the community, but it was lovely to welcome in old friends and new to celebrate this worthwhile day”

As well as showing visitors around  we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. You can download your copy from www.careuk.com.
