Dozens of Care UK homes raise a cuppa and funds for Dementia UK

Company news

Coffee mornings and afternoon teas in Care UK nursing and care homes across the country have raised funds for Dementia UK – the national charity dedicated to supporting families affected by dementia – and a cheque for £2,835 was presented to the charity by residents at Echelforde Care Home in Ashford.

The Time for a Cuppa events were part of a national campaign to raise awareness of dementia as well as raising money for the charity, which helps many of the 800,000 people living with the condition and their families through providing Admiral Nurses, who are mental health nurses specialising in dementia.

At Echelforde Care Home in College Way, Ashford, the team held an event raising £230, the most of any single Care UK home taking part – a feat that won them the honour of making the national cheque presentation.

Home manager Jennifer Sharman said: “We’re delighted to have been selected to make the presentation on the behalf of all Care UK homes.

“We provide expert care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and we know that this campaign is very important to people with the condition, for both them and their families.

“Residents and team members joined in the event for the official handover to Amy Cudmore, the community fundraiser for Dementia UK.”

Amy said: “We are delighted that Care UK has once again taken part in Time for a Cuppa. With the support of their care homes holding Time for a Cuppa parties, it will help Dementia UK to expand and develop more Admiral Nurse services to reach more families affected by dementia across the country.”
