The latest in dementia-friendly design comes to The Terrace

Home news

The Terrace is undergoing a major refurbishment in order to provide its award winning dementia care in a new specialist unit.

One area of our beautiful, listed Victorian building will be transformed into a new specialist dementia suite.

Steve Appleton, Head of Programme Management, said: “Care UK has invested a great deal in researching how the environment can positively affect people with dementia and we will be using many of those techniques in the redesign of the unit.”

“The unit will have a small dining area, closer to the scale of a domestic setting, because we find people are happier and eat well in a quieter setting.”

We will also have a new outdoor area too for people to enjoy the fresh air safely.

Even the home’s salon will get a facelift. Manager Nicola Wilkins said: “our residents enjoy a good pampering and everyone is excited about the makeover. I am sure I’ll be receiving lots of ideas about colour schemes and themes!”
