The sky’s the limit! Care home team member raises over £2,600 for local charity

Home news

A team member at a Richmond care home took to the skies and raised thousands for local hospice.

Judy Wray, Home Manager at Care UK’s The Terrace, on Maison Dieu, and her son, Callum jumped out of a 15,000 ft high plane to raise over £1,600 for St Teresa’s Hospice – a cause close to her heart. Care UK learned about Judy’s skydive and match funded the amount, bringing the total donation to £2,667.

Founded in 1986, St Teresa’s Hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care and support in South Durhan & North Yorkshire. Caring for those diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers, the charity aims to enhance quality of life and help people to live with their illness as comfortably as possible.

Presenting the donation to Deborah Gibbs, a representative from St Teresa’s Hospice, Judy was joined by Dianna Coy, Regional Director at Care UK and Maggie Spooner, Operational Support Manager at Care UK. Following a speech where Judy thanked everyone for their support, there was a special afternoon tea, whipped up by the home’s Chef.

Judy said: “I am thrilled to have pushed myself out of my comfort zone and taken to the skies to complete a skydive – all while raising over £2,667 for a local charity close to my heart. The work that St Teresa’s Hospice do and the countless families they help support is vital, and I hope this donation helps them to continue providing critical aid within the local community.”

Dianna Coy, Regional Director at Care UK, said: "I am immensely proud of Judy for her dedication to raising money to help others in need – it means a lot to be able to work with someone who goes above and beyond to make a difference.

“If her fundraising isn’t proof enough, Judy is an all-round selfless character, and is truly an asset to the team at The Terrace. Congratulations on all of your hard work paying off and for raising such impressive funds for Ste Teresa’s Hospice – a huge well done from the whole team, Judy!”
