High Wycombe nurse wins national care award for dedication to care home residents

Home news

A nurse at Care UK’s Catherine Court care home in High Wycombe has won a national award for her commitment to delivering life-enhancing care for older people.

Anna Pochron, who is also the home’s deputy manager, won the award for her work in promoting care, dignity and choice for residents at the care home in Cressex Road, through excellent nursing care and the inspirational leadership of her team.

Anna was nominated by the home’s then manager Gráinne Wokes. She said: “Anna is greatly admired throughout the home. Her knowledge is exceptional and the team has developed confidence and a solid bedrock of skills thanks to her.

“She is always there, watching and informally training, showing how things should be done and praising good practice as she goes. Her constant watchfulness has been invaluable in helping us create consistently great quality care.”

Gráinne also told judges that Anna works with the residents’ families to ensure that they are happy with all the care their relatives receive and she spends her free time talking to residents and relatives to ensure they are all happy and content.

The judges said they were impressed with Anna’s highly skilled running of the home’s nursing service as well as her approachable manner and obvious commitment to the home’s residents and their families.

Anna was amazed when her name was announced at the awards ceremony organised by Care UK on 14th November at Heythrop Park Resort in Oxford. She said: “I am lucky to have such a wonderful job working with such a great team and lovely residents. I have learned a great deal from Gráinne and I hope I am able to share what I have learned with my team for the benefit of our residents.”

The awards were open to all Care UK homes and wellbeing centres across the country.
