On Wednesday 18th September a resident and two members of staff embarked on a day trip to the picturesque village of Walsingham. The trip came about after resident Audrey Arkins saw an advert for Walsingham in a church magazine given to her by the vicar who visits her every Sunday for holy communion. Audrey told Senior Carer Sharon Halverson that she would like to visit Walsingham. Sharon subsequently passed this message onto Home Manager, Michael Parris.
As a result Michael organsied a trip, which saw Sharon accompany him and Audrey on a trip to Walsingham. On their journey they stopped for a break on the way so that Audrey could stretch her legs, as Walsingham is over 100 miles away from Little Holland Hall.
On their arrival to the village they visited the local shops and church. To break the day up they stopped for a pub lunch, where Audrey was treated to ham, egg and chips, and a glass of wine. After lunch they visited Walsingham Shrine, where Audrey got some holy water and lit a candle. Before heading home Michael, Sharon and Audrey visited a local tea room, where they had tea and biscuits. After driving home they arrived back at Little Holland Hall at 6.30pm, when Audrey said:
“I had a wonderful day but am ready for bed now”
On the way to Walsingham Audrey mentioned that due to her dementia she was worried she might forget where she had been. To help Audrey remember this day Michael and Sharon created a book for her with pictures and a story of their day trip to Walsingham.
