Treatment centre passes quality inspection with flying colours

Company news

A Plymouth NHS treatment centre has passed a national quality audit with flying colours.

Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre, in Brest Road, received a routine inspection from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England. The CQC inspector passed the centre on all five core standards:

  • treating people with respect and involving them in their care
  • providing care, treatment and support that meets people’s needs
  • caring for people safely and protecting them from harm
  • staffing
  • quality and suitability of management.

The centre is operated by Care UK, a leading independent provider of health and social care services, and services are commissioned by the local NHS. The centre specialises in joint replacements and orthopaedic surgery, including hip and knee replacements, shoulder repair and hand and elbow surgery. It also offers a cataract service and diagnostic services, using the latest MRI and ultrasound technology as well as providing capacity to the loal acute trust for general surgery patients.

The CQC inspector’s report praised the centre, saying: “During our visit to the service, all the people we spoke with told us they were very well looked after. One person said, “It is brilliant here, I would recommend it to anyone.” People told us there were always sufficient staff to care for them and that they believed the staff to be well trained. The centre had robust efficient processes in place to regularly check the quality of the service provided and make improvements. People told us that they felt listened to.”

Patricia Warwick, hospital director at Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre, said: “We are pleased to have passed this important inspection and delighted with the comments from the inspector. The inspector’s conclusions are testimony to the dedicated work of the entire team.”
