£8m care home on track to create up to 100 jobs

Home news

A new £8 million care home is on track to create up to 100 jobs when the 86-bed building opens its doors to residents in June.

Called Scarlet House, the home in Stroud will provide a range of care services for older people, including residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short term respite, palliative, and end of life care.

The final touches are being made to the home in time for its official opening and Care UK, the independent health and social care provider building the home, is inviting members of the local community to visit the show suite to take a closer look at the care environment and to meet the senior level team which is currently being appointed and trained.

Richard Scarth, regional director at Care UK, said: “Scarlet House will provide valuable employment opportunities for local people. Even before the home is complete, it has become clear there is a demand for quality care facilities in the town and we already have several residents confirmed to make Scarlet House their ‘home from home’ when our doors open in a few weeks time.”

Scarlet House is thoughtfully designed to allow residents to live active and fulfilled lives. It features a cinema, hair and beauty room and a coffee shop. Its name is inspired by the ‘Stroudwater Scarlet’ cloth made in the town’s ancient mills and historical pictures feature on the walls that help residents who have lived in the local area to recall memories, people and places from the past.

Each individual bedroom has an en-suite wet room, flat-screen television, adjustable profile bed, and 24-hour nurse call system. The layout of the home has been designed to support the formation of close-knit communities – a factor which has proven particularly helpful for residents living with dementia, who benefit from calm, familiar surroundings. Residents can also spend time relaxing outdoors in the landscaped gardens.

Richard added: “Scarlet House has been designed to enhance residents’ lives in many ways with its layout and facilities carefully thought-through to ensure their needs are well served. We will be working closely with each resident, their families and friends to ensure the care environment supports their individual needs.”
