The inspectors from the Care Quality Commission made an unannounced inspection at the Hogshill Lane home, which provides residential care for up to 50 people, including those with dementia, and is also the base for a day centre.
The inspectors examined the home and its records on January 20 and interviewed team members, before announcing that the home now meets all the Government’s five national standards of quality and safety which are:
On this and their previous visit to the home in June, they were keen to hear from residents and families about the care offered at Tiltwood, and were able to see evidence of the team’s hard work and dedication to giving the highest standards of care. They observed that five separate families had written in to thank the home, and included comments on the care such as “It gave us comfort to see how tenderly he was nursed” and “It was reassuring to know she was being looked after by such dedicated staff.”
The inspectors reassured themselves that the recruitment procedures at the home were as they should be, and heard from visitors to the home that they were happy that their relatives’ preferences and choices were taken into account. One said: “Staff are very caring and respectful of people's individuality.” They observed how the team ensured that people’s wishes were respected, seeking people's consent, and giving them choices about how their care and support was delivered.
Manager Dacre Lassauniere said: “I am very pleased indeed that the inspectors feel that we meet the Government’s standards – we tailor everything we do to the residents’ and day guests’ needs so that we offer people activities and care which is individual to them. We want them to feel that this really is their home, where they can relax and enjoy themselves.”
The inspectors also asked people if they received the care they needed, when they needed it. All the responses from residents were positive, and included “They encourage me to be independent” and “This is a very good care home.”
