Find out more about glaucoma at health fair and support group

Company news

People in the Rochdale area with the eye disorder glaucoma will have an opportunity during National Glaucoma Week (June 9-15) to discover more about the condition.

Rochdale Ophthalmology Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service (CATS) will be attending a health fair at Demesne Community Centre, Asby Close, Langley on Tuesday 10 June, 11am-4pm. The health fair will offer the opportunity for the public to find out about local health services and obtain information about healthy lifestyles.

Rochdale Ophthalmology CATS is run by independent health and social care provider Care UK. It offers a number of treatments to NHS patients across the region, including a glaucoma service, pre-operative assessments and a minor operation service for numerous eye conditions.

Ken Brearton, service manager at Rochdale Ophthalmology CATS, said: “We provide clinical assessment and treatment services giving people fast, convenient access to treatment for ophthalmological conditions and complaints. Rochdale Ophthalmology CATS will be attending the health fair to provide information on glaucoma.

“Earlier this year, we launched the Rochdale Glaucoma Support Group and it is proving very popular. It gives people with the same condition an opportunity to share experiences over a cup of tea and learn more about their condition.”

The next meeting of the support group is on Monday 23 June, 1-3pm at the Croft Shifa Health Centre in Belfield Road, Rochdale, when local consultant, Mr John Suharwardy, will be speaking on glaucoma. The group is free to join. Anyone unable to make the meeting but who would like to know more about the group should contact Emma Mawson on 07918 673 999.
