Care UK unveils £9.2m Cheadle care home

Company news

Care UK, the leading independent provider of health and social care services, has invested £9.2million to develop a new state-of-the-art care home in Cheadle.

The care home, which will offer places for 80 people, is due to open in 2015 and will boost the local economy with the creation of up to 100 new jobs.

The care home is being developed inside the grounds of Abney Hall where Abney Court once stood. It will carry the name ‘Abney Court’ to pay homage to the original building where historical figures such as Prince Albert and Agatha Christie once stayed.

Richard Scarth, regional director for Care UK, said: “Abney Court represents a major investment for Care UK, and we are looking forward to completing the home and welcoming the first residents early next year.

“We’re currently on schedule to open our doors in early 2015 and local people interested in the home will have a chance to look around by the end of this year.  Abney Court has been designed to enhance residents’ lives in a host of ways, with its layout and facilities well thought-through to ensure residents’ needs are well served – from physical needs to likes and dislikes, hobbies and interests.”

The purpose built care home will offer a range of services including residential and nursing care and specialist dementia care, together with palliative, respite and end of life care.

Sensitively-designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, the care home will feature its very own cinema room and a hairdressing salon. The layout of the home has been designed to support the formation of close-knit communities - a factor which has proven particularly helpful for residents living with dementia, who benefit from calm, familiar surroundings.

Visitors can expect a nod to local history throughout, with references to famous people from Cheadle in the naming of the homes’ lounges, dining rooms and café.

Care UK runs 113 care homes and also provides care for thousands of people living in their own homes.
