There is a choice of times (10am - 12 noon or 1pm - 3pm) and free light refreshments will be provided.
The event will be hosted by Care UK with independent speaker, Neil Mapes, who has a background in clinical psychology and dementia advocacy and helped establish one of the first Alzheimer’s Cafes in the UK. His community interest company, Dementia Adventure, specialises in connecting people living with dementia with the outdoors, nature and a sense of adventure.
Attendees will also be able to pick up complimentary copies of Care UK’s recently launched Listen, Talk, Connect guide, which provides guidance on how to communicate and connect with people living with the condition.
Asterbury Place home manager, Christine Serville, says: “Getting the right support and advice is very important when caring for a loved one with dementia. We look forward to hosting this event with Neil Mapes, whose innovative methods will help people understand what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as give practical tips on how to overcome communication barriers. All are welcome to attend.”
The event will take place in the Asterbury Club, which is adjacent to the care home and offers day and respite services to help older people locally enjoy meeting up and keeping up with favourite hobbies. The Club is now open and offers flexible day care support, Monday to Friday, 9.30am-4pm.
