National award for Sophie

Company news

A clinical psychologist working at a north London specialist treatment centre for children has beaten off competition from across the country to claim a national award.

Sophie Nesbitt works at Rhodes Farm, a specialist treatment centre in Mill Hill for children and adolescents aged 6-19 who need hospital treatment for an eating disorder. It is run by independent sector health and social care provider Care UK.

Sophie was awarded the Medical Professional of the Year Award at the company’s 2014 Health Care Awards. This award is to recognise the contribution of a medical professional who makes a real difference to their service, and goes above and beyond the expected standards.

Sophie has worked at Rhodes Farm since 2005. Her role is to support, train and supervise the psychology team and other colleagues, and she’s also involved in supporting the young people at Rhodes Farm through cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational work. She has written about eating disorders, including Hunger for understanding: A workbook for young people with anorexia nervosa.

Sophie said: “I feel absolutely overwhelmed. Our team has been together for two years and my work is a reflection of the wonderful team that I am part of.”

Jim Easton, Managing Director of Care UK’s Health Care division, said: “These annual awards are designed to recognise those members of staff who go that extra mile in some shape or form to make the patient experience more enjoyable and rewarding. I would like to congratulate Sophie on winning this award as the competition from across the country was very high.”

Care UK provides more than 50 primary care services including GP and walk-in services, NHS 111, out-of-hours, diagnostics centres, clinical assessment and treatment services and prison health services. It also runs 10 hospitals that specialise in elective, planned surgery.
