Southampton team scoops three national awards

Company news

FIVE team members at Southampton NHS Treatment Centre have between them beaten off competition from across the country to claim three national awards.

The centre is run on behalf of the local NHS by Care UK, a leading independent provider of health and social care services in the UK. Care UK organises annual national Health Care Awards to recognise those colleagues who go the extra mile to provide innovative and caring service and this year the team in Southampton took three of the awards.

Kathryn Dunning, Nicola Dunkason and Samuel Obi are quality improvement facilitators and the trio won the Quality Improvement Award. This award is for an individual or team that has improved the quality of services from a patient safety, experience, clinical effectiveness or the efficiency of the service perspective. The Southampton team has shortened the patient pathway by reducing the number of outpatient attendances required both before and after surgery.

Kathryn commented on winning the award: “It’s really exciting to have received this award. I really enjoy the work. We have many challenges and we were up against some great competition for the award so it’s great to have been judged the winner.”

Nina Bouttell won the Health Support Worker of the Year Award. This award is to recognise the contribution of an individual who makes a real difference to the place they work, and go above and beyond the expected standards. Nina said: “This means such a lot to me. I love my job and this award makes me even more motivated to do more and more every day for our patients.”

Registered nurse Rachael McEnery won the Great Care Award. This award is for an individual or team who are continually committed to the provision of great care, putting the needs of patients or service users above all else. Rachael said: “It means everything. I love my job and it’s lovely to be here. It’s really recognition of my work with patients as they are central to everything I do.”

Jim Easton, Managing Director of Care UK’s Health Care division, said: “These annual awards are designed to recognise those colleagues who go that extra mile in some shape or form to make the patient experience more enjoyable and rewarding. I would like to congratulate Kathryn, Nicola, Samuel Nina and Rachael on winning their awards as the competition from across the country was very high.”

Care UK provides more than 50 primary care services including GP and walk-in services, NHS 111, out-of-hours, diagnostics centres, clinical assessment and treatment services and prison health services. It also runs 11 hospitals that specialise in elective, planned surgery.
