An afternoon of celebration and song in Cheltenham

Home news

Care UK’s Sandfields care home in Cheltenham hosted an afternoon of celebration and musical performances on Wednesday (18th March) as the community warms up for the Forget-Me-Not charity concert next month, which is sponsored by the care home.

The afternoon of musical delights began with a rousing performance from the Age UK choir. This was followed by young talent from Dean Close School, including the BBC Chorister of the Year, Laurence Kilsby, and a fellow student: Amy Porter. Laurence and Amy will be joining the Choristers of Tewkesbury Abbey performing at the Forget-Met-Not concert in April.

According to Sandfields Home Manager, Ruth Baggs, the afternoon was a huge success, she said: “The celebrations were really enjoyed by residents and all those that took part. Although we play music in the care home every day, it was great to have the choirs singing live. Music can be uplifting for residents and can create a sense of togetherness.

“This is also a good opportunity for our home to become more involved in the local community and grow our relationship with the local school. It’s great to be supporting the concert next month which is raising money for a cause close to our hearts. We appreciate how essential it is for continued research into the condition and it is a pleasure to help such a fantastic event that will raise funds and awareness for the illness.”

The Forget-Me-Not concert will be held at the Bacon Theatre, Cheltenham, on 19th April 2015, with proceeds going to Alzheimer’s Society. The concert will feature talented performers including those from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden; world renowned mezzo soprano Sarah Connolly CBE; first artiste with the Royal Ballet Company, Pietra Mello Pitman; actress Fiona Fullerton and it has now been announced that lead singer from Strictly Come Dancing, Lance Ellington, will also be performing.
