Meg is the star of the show at Crufts

Residents at Care UK’s Stanley Park care home are delighted to have a star in their midst, as Meg, a Pets as Therapy dog who regularly visits the home, has won an award at Crufts 2015.

Meg’s award was in recognition of her dedicated work with residents at Stanley Park, who she visits each week. She is one of thousands of Pets as Therapy animals who visit care homes, hospitals, hospices, special needs schools and day centres across the UK, giving people with a range of needs the chance to stroke, hold and talk to friendly animals.

Meg was very excited to pick up her award from Pam St Clement, famous for playing Pat Butcher in Eastenders. Pam, an animal lover, is a keen supporter of the Pets as Therapy campaign as well as a number of other animal charities.

Christine Gibson, home manager at Stanley Park says, “Meg is dedicated and hardworking: she’s been visiting us for four years. Our residents completely adore her. She’s intelligent, highly trained and very gentle – ideal qualities in a PAT dog. Plus she’s got such a kind face that you can’t help but love her. She thrives on all the attention she gets on her weekly visits.

“All of us at Stanley Park are so pleased that Meg has received this award. She fully deserves the recognition – and brush with stardom – that she’s received and we’re delighted that Pam Coombs, her owner, will continue to bring Meg in for her weekly visits to Stanley Park. Thankfully for us, fame hasn’t gone to this little dog’s head - yet.”
