The bake-off took place at the Mildenhall Club, adjacent to Mildenhall Lodge care home in St John’s Close, on 22nd April with participants working in six teams to bake and decorate the best Help for Heroes themed cakes. The cakes were then auctioned off to the highest bidder, raising a total of £350 for the charity. The money will support Help for Heroes’ work to provide much-needed recovery and rehabilitation for wounded servicemen and women, and support for their families.
The bake-off event is one of many taking place across the country over the next fortnight as part the national ‘Bake for Heroes’ campaign, which encourages communities to ‘bake’ a difference and raise as much money as they can for Help for Heroes.
Mildenhall Lodge home manager, Paul Draper, said: “It was a brilliant day and we were delighted to be raising money in aid of Help for Heroes. I would particularly like to thank RAF Mildenhall for joining us and sharing their excellent baking skills! We’re pleased to have a strong relationship with the air base and we look forward to sharing more events with them in the near future, including a picnic in the park event in July.”
Mildenhall Lodge provides residential, nursing and dementia care, with the adjacent day club offering flexible day respite care for older people living in their own homes locally. For more information about care home or the day club call 0333 321 1971 or visit careuk.com/mildenhall-lodge
