Care UK invites people in East Grinstead to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Home news

Care UK’s Mill View care home in East Grinstead is inviting local people to visit the home on Sunnyside Close on Saturday 20th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 10.30am to 4pm, the team at Mill View will be opening the doors to the care home for a traditional country fair. The free family-friendly event will feature a coconut shy where visitors will be able to test their aim and stalls selling homemade produce such as jam and pickles alongside handcrafted items.

Visitors will also be able to treat themselves to toffee apples, candy floss and ice cream, a fun fortune teller will be on hand to give readings; and younger family members can have their faces painted and watch an entertaining Punch and Judy show. Anyone who drops by can also take the opportunity to meet the friendly care team and take a tour of the home.

In the run up to the open day, residents of Mill View have been busy creating flower arrangements for a special art competition. The floral displays will be on show throughout the day of the country fair and the winner of the competition will be announced.

The event at Mill View is one of thousands planned throughout the UK for Care Home Open Day.  The annual initiative is aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, creating lasting links between care homes, residents and their local communities, and developing relationships across the generations.

Cindy Luscombe, home manager at Mill View, said: “Care homes undoubtedly play an important role in the local community; however some people have preconceived ideas about the care environment and what day-to-day life is like for residents.  This is partly because they have never seen a modern care home for themselves.

“We are therefore looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Saturday 20th June.  We cannot wait to showcase everything Mill View has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing.  We have planned a fun day for all the family and a warm welcome awaits the people of East Grinstead.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Mill View will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go.  The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.

Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/goodtogo.
