From 10.30am until 4.30pm, the team at The Burroughs will be opening the doors to the care home for a garden party.
The free, family-friendly event will feature entertainment from professional performer Nikki Blake, who will have everyone singing along with hits from the 1950s. There will be a fun demonstration of light exercise activities using parachutes and giant balloons, and a selection of tempting cakes and drinks will be served from the home’s Busy Lizzy’s coffee shop. Visitors can also make the most of the opportunity to meet the friendly care team and take a tour of the home.
The event at The Burroughs is one of thousands planned throughout the UK for Care Home Open Day. The annual initiative is aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, creating lasting links between care homes, residents and their local communities, and developing relationships across the generations.
Josephine Thomas, home manager at The Burroughs, said: “Care homes undoubtedly play an important role in the local community; however some people have preconceived ideas about the care environment and what day-to-day life is like for residents. This is partly because they have never seen a modern care home for themselves.
“We are therefore looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 19th June. We cannot wait to showcase everything The Burroughs has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing. We have planned a fun day for all the family and a warm welcome awaits the people of West Drayton.”
Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at The Burroughs will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go. The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.
Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers. The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/goodtogo.
