Colne View invites people in Essex to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Home news

Colne View care home in Halstead, Essex, is inviting local people to visit the home on Friday 19th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 1pm until 4pm, the team at Colne View will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event.  Throughout the afternoon there will be performances from the home’s very own residents’ choir as well as entertainment from professional singer, Chris Gordon.

Residents will also be busy putting the finishing touches to their garden to create a welcoming environment for birds and wildlife, following the success of the home’s involvement in RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch earlier in the year.  And, while some areas of the home are set to be a hive of activity, visitors will be able to relax and enjoy a choice of beauty treatments, with face-painting also available for young children.

The event at Colne View is one of thousands planned throughout the UK for Care Home Open Day.  The annual initiative is aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, creating lasting links between care homes, residents and their local communities, and developing relationships across the generations.

David Martins, customer relations manager at Colne View, said: “Care homes undoubtedly play an important role in the local community; however some people have preconceived ideas about the care environment and what day-to-day life is like for residents.  This is partly because they have never seen a modern care home for themselves.

“We are therefore looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 19th June.  We cannot wait to showcase everything Colne View has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing.  We have planned a fun day for all the family and a warm welcome awaits the people of Essex.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Colne View will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go.  The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.

Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.
