Afternoon of dementia support at Halstead care home

Home news

Help is on hand for family carers in Halstead and surrounding areas on Wednesday 16th September, when the Care UK team at the Colne View care home on Dame Mary Walk, Colchester Road, hosts a free understanding dementia event.

From 1pm until 4pm, Neil Mapes from Dementia Adventure will share his knowledge and provide practical tips for those caring for someone living with dementia. Neil will help people understand the condition, learn how memories are lost, and give guidance on how to overcome communication barriers.

The free event is part of an on-going partnership between Care UK and Dementia Adventure and is designed to help family members and carers gain a clearer understanding of dementia.  After the event, Neil will be on hand to answer any questions and there will be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the carers at Colne View and take a look around the home.

Colne View’s, customer relations manager, David Martins, said:  “Research undertaken by Care UK highlighted the challenges faced by family carers. Only 14 per cent of people in the south east said they felt they would be able to cope if a parent or close relative was diagnosed with dementia, and almost half of all respondents in the region were unaware of the support available should they find themselves caring for someone with the condition.

“At Colne View, we want to open-up access to free advice for family carers in Halstead and beyond, and the forthcoming understanding dementia event is aimed at helping people to boost their knowledge and to get a clearer idea of how best to cope with everyday scenarios.  We are looking forward to opening our doors for what promises to be an insightful event for the local community.”

Those who attend the understanding dementia event at Colne View will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go.  The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.

For more information or to book a free space at the understanding dementia event, please call customer relations manager, David Martins, on 0333 434 3019 or email david.martins@careuk.com
