Support to live well with dementia at Leamington Spa care home

Home news

People in Leamington Spa and surrounding areas are invited to find out more about living with dementia at Priors House care home on Old Milverton Lane on Wednesday 16th September from 2pm to 3.30pm.

At the free event, Caroline Bates, a local Dementia Friend’s Champion, will be joining the team at Priors House to share her knowledge and provide practical advice for family carers. Caroline will help visitors to Priors House find out more about what it is like to live with dementia and after the talk she will be joined by Clair Sutton-Hill, clinical manager at Priors House, who will be on hand to answer any questions and offer further guidance.

There will also be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the team at Priors House and take a closer look around the home.

Speaking about the event, Julia Joy, home manager at Priors House, said: “It gives us great pleasure to welcome a Dementia Friend’s Champion to the care home. As part of a national initiative from the Alzheimer’s Society, Caroline has been trained to help change public perceptions of dementia and to encourage better understanding of what it means to live well with the condition.

“At Priors House, we want to open up access to free advice for local family carers, and the forthcoming understanding dementia event is aimed at making it easier for people in the town to boost their knowledge of the condition and help make Leamington Spa a dementia-friendly town.”

For those looking for additional support, Priors House also hosts a monthly Dementia Café and members of the local community are invited to drop in and make the most of the help and advice on offer. The free support group will be headed-up by Priors House dementia lead, Marie Lavery, along with advice and support at each meeting from a local expert. It meets on the last Friday of each month, with the next meeting taking place on 25th September.

Situated on Old Milverton Lane, Priors House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short term respite care.  Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hairdressers, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
