The care home, which is the official sponsor of the Edith Cavell centenary commemorations, has supported the drama with a £2,000 donation.
Actors from the Searchlight Theatre Company, including those playing Edith Cavell, a German officer and an English soldier, popped into the care home on Dragonfly Lane to meet the residents and talk about the centenary celebrations.
They also performed a theatrical extract from 'Remember Edith Cavell'. The drama, which will be performed to 1,000 people this weekend, will see the famous nurse’s life portrayed on stage with music from the Cavell Orchestra and the Cathedral Chamber Choir.
Cavell Court home manager, Anita O’Neill, said: “Edith Cavell is a much-loved local heroine and we are very proud to be supporting the commemoration to mark the centenary of her death. Edith is remembered as a pioneer of nursing and for her care of others, so it seemed only right that Cavell Court should be involved in this important event. We were delighted to be able to support the concert. All the residents really enjoyed the dramatic performance and it has given our home a wonderful opportunity to forge great relationships with the local community.”
Nick Miller, Chair of the Norfolk Cavell 2015 Partnership, said: “We are very grateful to have the support of Care UK. The team at the Cavell Court care home were really keen to be involved in the centenary celebrations and their £2,000 donation has made a huge difference to the staging of the performance.”
