The team at Brook Court care home is joining forces with Maggie Martin, an expert on care planning, to host a free event on ‘care plans: when and why and how?’ Maggie will explain the importance of writing your own care plan, and how it be helpful for your loved ones in later life. She is able to challenge perceptions around writing plans and injects light humour into a subject that many people struggle to think about.
According to home manager, Joanne Gill, an ageing population means there is a growing need to open up access to expert advice for those who are planning future care: “It was recently revealed that by 2030 there will be more than two million people aged 65 and over in the UK with no child living nearby to give care if needed*. This means more and more people will be worrying about their own future care or the care of a loved one.
“At Care UK, we understand that having access to the right information and clearly delivered advice can help families make sense of the care options available to them. We have therefore invited Maggie along to lead this free session at Brook Court.
“As a trusted professional with a wealth of experience in care planning, Maggie now works training and educating care home staff, equipping them with the special skills needed to look after residents. Maggie’s passion and enthusiasm for empowering people to stay in control of their own care is inspiring, and we hope by holding this event we can spread the word about the importance of care plans.”
After the event there will be a question and answer session and visitors can also take the opportunity to meet the care team at Brook Court and to look around the care home if they wish.
