At a visit by the Care Quality Commission in December, examining the home against a number of key areas such as safe, effective, responsive, well-led, and inspectors were happy to award the home an overall good rating.
During their visit to the home, which provides specialist care for older people, some of whom have dementia, the inspectors talked informally to the team and examined the home’s administrative systems and processes.
Home Manager Mathew Mathew said: “I am delighted that we reached the high standard set out by the Government and CQC and I was even more delighted that the inspectors highlighted how the team works to promote peoples independence.”
The inspectors reported that staff offered people choices, bent down to speak with people and listened to their responses. There was a calm and relaxed atmosphere. One member of staff told them, ''It is a good place to work, the staff are all very caring.'' Another member of staff said, ''It is all about caring here and all the staff do that.'' The staff respected people's privacy, knocking on bedroom doors and asking permission to enter.
The staff spoke positively about the culture at the home. They said they were well supported and the service was well-led. The staff liked the manager and said that he was available and approachable. One member of staff said, ''He is fair and it is easy to talk with him.'' Some of the things people told them were, "The home is well managed'', ''the staff seem to be happy, they talk to you with a smile on their faces and it cheers you up a bit" and ''the place seems well managed and runs smoothly.''
Mathew said: “Everyone at Franklin House, including the kitchen and maintenance teams, strives to ensure that we create genuinely individual care for each resident.
“To do that, we ensure we get to know each person, their history and their interests, so that we can tailor each care plan to maintain their independence, life skills and sense of wellbeing.”
