Outstanding Mildenhall carer wins county award for going the extra mile

Home news

An outstanding carer at Care UK’s Mildenhall Lodge care home has been recognised at the Suffolk Going the Extra Mile (GEM) awards, organised by Suffolk County Council and the Suffolk Safeguarding Adults Board.

Emma Abbey was presented with the award for Outstanding Care Practice at the special GEM awards ceremony, held on the 1st February at Trinity Park in Ipswich.

Residents and relatives at Mildenhall Lodge praised Emma for her kind, efficient, knowledgeable and supportive nature. She was one of 15 carers to be shortlisted for her award.

Judges found that Emma had gone the ‘extra mile’ on many occasions. Examples included when she learnt basic Finnish so she could communicate and translate with a new resident from Finland, and when she extensively researched a new medication to ease the worries of a resident and their family, and to help educate her colleagues about the medication.

Katy Hughes, home manager at Mildenhall Lodge, said: “We are all thrilled that Emma’s hard work and dedication has been recognised at the GEM awards. She is an excellent team member and frequently goes the extra mile to ensure the happiness and wellbeing of residents and their families. Well done Emma!”
