Amberley care home wins approval of national care inspectors

Home news

Care UK’s Amberley Lodge care home on Downlands Road in Purley has been given the seal of approval by a national care watchdog, with relatives and residents praising the home’s caring team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Amberley Lodge an overall ‘Good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection of the care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.

In order to assess service standards at Amberley Lodge, the CQC’s inspector spoke with team members, residents and their visiting relatives on the day of the inspection. They also reviewed the records and procedures already in place at the care home.

According to the inspector’s report, residents said they were cared for by people who knew them as individuals and understood their needs, and it was noted how care plans included life stories and personal preferences.  The inspector observed how residents were spoken to in a friendly and respectful manner; and members of the Care UK team talked to the inspector about the importance of treating people with kindness and dignity.

Relatives were also positive about the care provided for their loved ones.  They said they felt involved and that the team at the home communicated well with them. One relative commented: “This is a care home where love and support is available in buckets.”

The report highlighted the varied programme of social events and activities at Amberley Lodge, which included quiz games, cookery and baking, arts and crafts, exercises and ball games, as well as trips out to the local supermarket and garden centre.  Pet Therapy, a Chinese New Year lunch and one-to-one sessions were also mentioned in the report, along with Namaste Care sessions designed to improve the quality of life for those living with dementia.

The report rated Amberley Lodge ‘outstanding’ for being well-led.  It was noted how home manager, Krystyna Bosko, demonstrated her passion for great care and coached the team as professionals, while also ensuring they were treated in a person-centred way themselves.  Every employee who spoke to the inspector said they felt valued and appreciated for the work they did by the management team.

Home manager, Krystyna Bosko, said: “We strive to create a welcoming home from home at Amberley Lodge and I’m so pleased our efforts have been recognised by the CQC’s inspectors.

“Everyone here works incredibly hard to support residents with compassionate, person-centred care, and to be rated ‘good’ shows just how committed the team is to making a positive difference to residents’ lives each and every day.

“I’m extremely proud of everybody at the home and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the team for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”
